If you don't send a valid ident response to the server then this will be
'~danj' instead of 'danj'. Try using *danj to hege your bets.

As Jack said this should have been crypted with mkpasswd or mkpasswd
-Hmd5. It should be present on any self-respecting *nix machine.

(Now if you're doing this on windows I salute you because last i tried it
would not compile)
