running ircd on freebsd

I have tried quite a few ircd packages now and only tr-ircd stays running
and creates log files. Its reporting a problem creating the listen socket
which is likely ailing all of them. Is ipv6 required for running ircd? I
have modified the ircd.conf for each as best I knew how. Have a bunch of
them now.

http://ircd-hybrid.org rather than the freebsd ports. the freebsd ports
version is quite out of date.
